2017-18 Car Line Procedures

Plantation Park Elementary School

Procedures for Car Riders

As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure student safety and building security, we ask that you adhere to the following car rider procedures: (Please note revisions to procedures.)

  • Staff supervision will not be provided until 7:45 AM. Please do not drop off children before 7:45. Please wait until you see a staff member at car line before you drop your child off at school.
  • The tardy bell rings at 8:15 AM. Students should be in the building by this time. If your student is entering later than 8:15, you must accompany him or her into the building and sign in.
  • All cars are to line up on Eurlene Street to drop off students. If you are stopped along Eurlene Street, please have your child exit the vehicle from the right side of the car onto the sidewalk. For safety purposes, we ask that no student exit their vehicle from the driver’s side or from across the street.
  • Please do not leave your car parked at the curb. If you need more time, please park in a designated parking spot, not on the grass or across the street, and escort your child to the school.
  • Students should only be dropped off in the designated car line area, not from any part of the parking lot unaccompanied.
  • Cell phone use is strictly prohibited in car line. It is against the law to use a cell phone in a school zone.

Afternoon Car Rider Procedures:

  • If you are picking up your child after school, please enter on Eurlene Street on the side of the school. After loading, please move quickly to allow the car line to move as quickly as possible.  Please do not pull out of the car line to go around other vehicles unless instructed to do so by school staff on duty.
  • Students will be dismissed at 3:05, so please be prompt in arriving to pick up your children.
  • Please do not stand at the front gate/sidewalk to pick up your child, as this causes congestion and is not safe.  Car riders are always supervised in the cafeteria and are called out to car line by car line staff.
  • Each student going home via car line will receive a tag that hangs from the rearview mirror of the vehicle. Please have this in place every day as it saves valuable time in calling for students to report to their cars.  Tags must remain in place until your child has been placed in the vehicle.  Students will not be loaded into cars that do not have a car line tag with his or her name.
  • If you do not have a car tag, you will have to wait until all cars have gone through car line to pick up your child. Once all cars have exited the car line we will call for your child to come out to car line.
  • Each student should enter his/her vehicle on the passenger side from the sidewalk.
  • If a child (1st - 5th grade) lives within walking distance and is not picked up in the car line during dismissal, the child will be sent home as a walker. The first time the parent is late picking up the child, the principal or principal designee will remind the parent of the car line policies and procedures. From that point forward, all students who are not picked up on time will be sent home as a walker. If you have any specific questions, please contact the office at 549-5700.

We thank you for your cooperation with these procedures.  Your support is greatly appreciated!
